WWE SummerSlam 2002: 5 Awesome Things And 5 Things That Sucked

5 Awesome Things...

5. Edge Showed He Belonged With Eddie Guerrero

The Chris Jericho podcast "Talk is Jericho" is tremendous for insight in many different subjects, especially pro wrestling. About a month ago he had Paul Heyman on the show along with Edge. Back in 2002 when the brands split up, Heyman was the booker of Smackdown. He made it a point to try to elevate Edge to that level from a midcarder to a top guy. His strategy was pretty simple: put Edge in feuds with some of the best wrestlers in the world. Edge won his feud with Kurt Angle post-WrestleMania in 2002. Up next was Eddie Guerrero. In Angle and Guerrero, Edge was able to work with two of the best in the business. He improved because of it. They weren't given enough time to have a classic match, but for 12 minutes they made it entertaining. Edge came back from a focused attack from Guerrero and won clean with the Spear. These two actually had a No DQ match on Smackdown a month later that was even better than this one so check that one out too.
