5. Divas May Be Too Far Gone
In many ways, I feel sorry for the Divas division as there may be little they can do to please the fans. They certainly aren't helping themselves, as the reality show Total Divas is making a number of them appear to be mentally unstable, arrogant divas and very bad actors. Furthermore, the divas have limited wrestling ability beside a few, and although they are clearly improving and working hard, they are still not yet able to put on consistently strong matches. However, I wasn't fully aware of how bad the problem was until the match between Brie Bella and Natalya at the event, where the fans in attendance made their feelings toward the match and the division totally clear. The match itself was quite good for a divas match, which isn't saying much but it wasn't by any means a train wreck. Bella was her usual catty self and put in a good mix of offence, whilst Natalya was her usual solid self, an effective mix of power, technique and submission. However, the two divas could have been putting on a clinic in that ring, and the crowd probably still wouldn't be into it in any way, shape or form. The crowd decided to use this opportunity either to stretch their legs or chant for the announcers, with cheers for Jerry Lawler, JBL and even Michael Cole ringing around the ring. There was even a "We Want Tables" chant ringing around the arena, as Natalya beat Bella with the Sharpshooter after the rest of the divas at ringside got into a brawl. Whilst I can understand the fans' frustration and apathy towards the Divas division in its current state, it must be incredibly disconcerting when you are one of the divas in the ring trying to put on an interesting match when a vocal section of the audience cares more about showing some appreciation to the announce team. Previously I thought that they did this in order to let the creative hierarchy know that they were not treating the division with respect and not giving them any interesting matches. But Natalya and Bella were given nearly ten minutes to perform and did a decent job, but they still couldn't care less, which leads me to think that these people just don't want to see the ladies wrestle at all. I don't think it's a sexist thing, as some divas were beloved by the crowd for their matches as well as their glamour, but after years in the lurch, the division is essentially being voted out by the fans with their reactions. It is certainly a troubled time for the divas of the WWE, and it is hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
