4. The WWE Intercontinental Title Match Was A Weak Link

Since winning the WWE Intercontinental Title the night after WrestleMania 32, The Miz has been fantastic with the gold. The addition of his real-life wife Maryse by his side has definitely added to the overall package, making it all the more unsatisfying that Miz wasn't used effectively at SummerSlam. Instead, he was mired in a throwaway match against Apollo Crews.

Crews wasn't necessarily the problem either, the writing team just didn't put much focus on the bout at all. Earlier in the week, build towards the title showdown was relegated to the commercial break on SmackDown Live, showing a complete lack of faith from those calling the shots.

At SummerSlam, The Miz and Apollo Crews were fighting an uphill battle. Of all the main card matches on the pay-per-view, the Intercontinental Title collision seemed like one of the most pointless. Months before, the secondary title had featured in some utterly brilliant matches on pay-per-view, but Miz vs. Crews just felt like one that could have been saved for SmackDown.

All in all, it was a weak link on the card, and the wrestlers can't be blamed for that. They were handicapped by the lackluster build.
