WWE SummerSlam 2016: 10 Things You Might Have Missed

6. DELETE! DELETE! DELETE!

Seth Rollins
Impact Wrestling

Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins wasn’t quite the knock-out Match of the Year contender that fans had anticipated, but it was still one of the night’s most exciting matches. Finn Balor enters the history books as the first Universal Champion in WWE history, and both wrestlers were on top form as they traded seemingly endless near falls en route to an enthralling finish.

Things got off to a slow start, however, and much of that came from the Barclays Center crowd. The fans just weren’t into the match, and were too busy deriding the Universal Title’s bland, uninspiring appearance to actually pay attention on the action unfolding before them.

A shame, but they got into the match as it progressed, and the opening stages produced one of the night’s best chants: “DELETE! DELETE! DELETE!”

This is a reference to TNA’s Final Deletion: the bizarre, bewildering, and deceptively deep centerpiece of the Broken Matt Hardy saga that’s sent TNA’s popularity surging to its highest point in years. Though it hasn’t quite turned TNA’s fortunes around, The Final Deletion unquestionably brought countless new eyes to their product, and the chant confirms that its appeal hasn’t died quite yet.

If you’ve not seen The Final Deletion, you owe it to yourself to check it out. It’s one of the weirdest things you’ll see all year.
