WWE SummerSlam 2016: 10 Things You Might Have Missed

3. Seth Rollins Turns Back The Clock

It’s always fun to see a wrestler hark back to their formative years, and that’s exactly what Seth Rollins did at SummerSlam. His match with Finn Balor was a fun but hard-thought affair that saw both wrestlers dive deep into their repertoire to find something capable of putting the other man away. Rollins was unsuccessful in his attempts at becoming WWE’s first Universal Champion, but he did pull-out a few old moves.

Towards the end, Rollins drilled Balor with a perfectly executed small package driver for a close near fall. A modified fisherman buster floated into a small package, Rollins primarily utilized the move while working as Tyler Black on the North American indy circuit (Ring of Honor, most notably). Rollins hasn’t used the move since his time in WWE developmental, and it was a great call-back for fans who’ve been following his career since its inception.

Rollins also pulled-out a Phoenix Splash: another move he used frequently as Tyler Black, but one he’s also been known to bust-out in a WWE ring from time-to-time. Still, going that far back into his back catalogue shows the lengths that Rollins had to go to at SummerSlam.
