WWE SummerSlam 2017: 8 Things WWE Got Right

2. Keeping The US Title On AJ Styles

Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens doesn't need the United States Title, so it's a good thing AJ Styles came out of SummerSlam with his hand raised. Any forthcoming SmackDown-only pay-per-views will need an AJ title defence to help pad out the card too, and that seemed to be at the back of WWE's mind on Sunday.

It was mission accomplished for Styles vs. KO at SummerSlam. Not only did AJ remain US Champion, but Owens' issues with Shane were furthered and the heel now has more to whinge about on TV going forward. Meanwhile, AJ can move on to feud with someone else. Perhaps WWE will finally pull the trigger on Styles vs. Nakamura.

The Japanese star could also get a rematch against Jinder Mahal for the WWE Title, but who wants to see that when there's potential for AJ vs. Shinsuke instead? The US Title is stronger for still being in AJ's camp, rather than as part of a blood feud between Owens and McMahon.
