WWE SummerSlam 2018: 10 Most Likely Outcomes
Bringing some much-needed endings to stale storylines...
After weeks of planning, SummerSlam is almost upon us. In that time, Roman Reigns has challenged Brock Lesnar (again!), Ronda Rousey has targeted Alexa Bliss and Daniel Bryan finally kick-started his highly-anticipated feud with The Miz — all of which will be addressed in the ring this Sunday.
In recent years, WWE's Biggest Party of The Summer has been treated like an even greater extravaganza than it once was, nearing WrestleMania levels of hype. However, with disappointing storylines, bizarre booking decisions and repetitive main events, this year's event could end up making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
It's not all bad, as some well-crafted storytelling and strong dramatic performances have given certain matches the potential to steal the show. Though we're left wondering if this will be enough to save an event that is poised to deliver an incredibly risky main event that fans will have no problem voicing their distaste for.
With all that in mind, let's take a look at some of the events that could take place during Sunday's marquee event and delve into why they are destined to happen and what they could ultimately mean for WWE.
10. Carmella Capitalises On The Tension Between Becky And Charlotte
The SmackDown Women's Championship match is undoubtedly an intriguing one. Though Carmella is the champion, the story revolving around her opponents is far more interesting than her title reign. However, that doesn't mean she won't win, because we should expect the simmering tension between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair to be their undoing.
Becky wasn’t happy about Charlotte’s insertion into the Women’s Championship match at SummerSlam and 'The Queen' completely understood that. While WWE has been planting subtle seeds of doubt between the two friends with awkward backstage segments, it’s unlikely that they will repeat the same mistake they made with Sasha Banks and Bayley. Thus, things will finally break down between the pair during the Triple Threat match, leaving an opening for Carmella to capitalise.
Speaking of Carmella, Asuka’s reputation was sacrificed on some hideous angles during her rivalry with the champ, so the least WWE can do is follow through by having Carmella’s reign actually mean something – which it definitely would if she managed to defeat Charlotte and Becky. Her opponents suggested that she was an unworthy champion, so look for her to finally prove herself when it counts.
