Rusev debuted at SummerSlam in 2014, facing off against Jack Swagger in a flag match. Playing the classic heel role, Rusev attacked Swagger before the match even started, and though it backfired on him, he was still able to lock in the Accolade to beat his American opponent.

From here, Rusev's SummerSlam CV has just gotten worse and worse. In 2015, the Bulgarian Brute, with Summer Rae in his corner, took on Dolph Ziggler accompanied by Lana. The two men were fighting outside the ring when Rusev took a Ziggler superkick to the face. Should The Showoff have made it into the ring in time, Rusev would have lost rather than tied this matchup.

The lowest point, possibly of Rusev's recent WWE career, came at SummerSlam in 2017 against Randy Orton. Again, the former attacked his opponent before the bell rung, and again it backfired on him. When the match finally started, Orton dodged Rusev's attack, hit an RKO, and pinned his opponent, all within 10 seconds of the bell.

The Bulgarian Brute was scheduled to defend his US Title against Roman Reigns in 2016, but after being attacked by his opponent before the match began, Rusev was unable to compete.

Now he has been demoted to the pre show for 2018, and will have to rely on a good performance from his wife Lana if he is to pick up his first SummerSlam victory since 2014.
