WWE SummerSlam 2026: 12 Things That NEED To Happen

It was way, way, way back in 2014 when Seth Rollins planted a steel chair in the back of an unaware Roman Reigns and ended The Shield's first run. WWE has come back to that here or there over the years, but they've only half-heartedly explored it due to Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley leaving to join the AEW revolution in 2019.

Now, at least on paper, this is the final blowoff.

SummerSlam 2026 is Roman's chance to close the book on The Shield once and for all. To do so, he'll need to avenge that chair shot by smashing Seth with one. The referee will have to be distracted for that to happen, because this World Title showdown isn't 'No DQ' or anything of the sort, but that's achievable if other members of The Bloodline run in.

Or, perhaps The Usos and Jacob Fatu will start brawling with LA Knight, Solo Sikoa and Royce Keys at ringside again, which would open the door for Reigns to wallop Rollins. Then, he'd toss that steel prop to the side, run into Seth with a spear and pin him to retain his title. It's a pretty easy story for these guys to tell, and it'd put a bow on Shield business for good.

"For good". Is that ever the case in wrestling?! We'll see. Whichever way you slice it, there's no way Roman is dropping the World Title this weekend when he's one of WWE's biggest stars and Seth doesn't really need the belt anyway.
