WWE Survivor Series: 10 Weirdest Sole Survivor Situations
4. Lex Luger - Survivor Series 1993
In the classic “Us/USA verses Them” booking angle, The
All-Americans (Luger, The Undertaker, Rick & Scott Steiner) fought
for patriotic honour against The Foreign Fanatics (Yokozuna, Crush, Ludvig
Borga, and Jacques Rougeau). To be the sole survivor of a team that includes
the icon of the industry The Undertaker and the tag team brutality of The
Steiners is an impressive feat.
It is accepted that winning a Survivor Series elimination match is a matter of honour. Reward comes in the form of patriotic, brand, or stable supremacy. However, Luger’s bonus was beyond bizarre, even for a man who was honoured with a glorious rain of confetti and balloons for beating Yokozuna via count out at SummerSlam 1993.
Before Thanksgiving Eve could turn into the day itself, the festive period made a cameo. Imitation snow drizzled down on Luger and his flag like a dandruff-based Vince McMahon power fantasy. His triumphant theme music was replaced by a muzak version of Jingle Bells, as Santa Claus hopped down the ramp. The PPV closed with the sole survivor holding Santa’s arm up in victory.
