WWE Survivor Series 2013 Review: 7 Biggest Talking Points

7. Cody, Goldust, Usos, Rey Mysterio Vs. Ambrose, Rollins, Reigns, Swagger, Cesaro

Roman Reigns The Boston crowd was electric, and putting the traditional Survivor Series 5 on 5 elimination match up first was a great way to kick off the show. Rey Mysterio was first out, and got a big reaction as a result. If he can stay fit, he will be a real plus for the WWE. The match started with some sound wrestling from Cody and Ambrose. Unfortunately for Ambrose, he was eliminated early with a rollup. Goldust was in for some decent exchanges with Cesaro and Swagger, before Mysterio tagged in. The master of the 619 looked in great shape, even leaner than usual, and was fast and accurate in his work. He hit the 619 0n Swagger and then tagged in the Usos who hit a superkick and a splash for the pin. Swagger was gone. This brought Cesaro in, who was really over with the smart Boston crowd. The biggest reaction of the night came when the Swiss man did his Cesaro swing on Jimmy Uso, and followed it up by giving Jay Uso one, too. Cesaro was hugely over at this point. Rhodes then got in and killed it with a roll up. The crowd popped at first, but then booed. The match then became all about one man: Roman Reigns. The big Samoan hit a sick spear to dispatch of Jimmy Uso. He then hit the same move on Cody Rhodes. He was looking very impressive. Rollins tagged in and he eliminated Jay Uso with a stamp to the head. The match was tightening back up, and was clearly a great contest. Mysterio came back in and rolled up Rollins to make the match down to Rey and Goldust vs. Roman Reigns. There were some Roman Reigns chants, and it became clear that whatever happened next it would be the Shield man who had made a name for himself in this match. Reigns then sealed his fame by hitting a spear to pin Goldust, and the spear of the night on Mysterio to win the whole thing single-handedly. The crowd popped big. WWE has often used this match to anoint future stars, and it was Reigns who got the star treatment here. Standing alone as a destructive power, he looked the real deal. He pinned 4 men with 4 spears, and the crowd loved it. A great opener.
