WWE: Team GB in World Wrestling Entertainment

4. William Regal

The most experienced Brit on the WWE Roster, William Regal has been part of mainstream U.S Wrestling TV shows since 1992. Due to his very English based gimmicks throughout the years, he is arguably the most obviously British combatant in this list. Despite never holding a major Singles Championship, Regal has had a very decorated and storied WWE career. Originally debuting in 1998, Regal was initially packaged with a 'Real Man's Man' lumberjack gimmick. Due to various addiction issues, Regal was released by WWE in 1999, at which point he returned to WCW for a year. He then made his comeback to WWE in 2000, winning the European Championship before embarking on a stint as WWE (or WWF as it then was) Commissioner. It was in this role Regal made a name for himself in the company, becoming involved with many memorable feuds and a comedy pairing with Japanese Superstar Tajiri. After spending the intervening years in the Midcard, winning the Intercontinental and Tag Team Championships over that time, he would get his second big push again in an Authority role as General Manager of Raw and King of the Ring winner in 2008. This rise was also cut short for similar reasons to his previous release, as a Wellness Policy violation took Regal off TV for 60 days once again. Upon his return, Regal would win the Intercontinental Championship for a second time on a Raw show emanating from Manchester. Regal would hold the Championship a short while before losing it to CM Punk, and then moved to the ECW brand in 2009. He had a couple of shots at the ECW Championship before the brand was cancelled, however he never won this title. Since that time, Regal's in-ring time has wound down and he has spent more of his time at the Commentary Booth on former and current incarnations of NXT, as well as WWE Developmental territory FCW. Many argue he is still one of the top performers in the ring when given a match, as well as being a great character on the microphone. Whenever WWE tours the UK, Regal is treated by the fans as a national hero. He has been a memorable character on WWE TV for many years now, and that looks to be continuing for further years to come with his move to the Commentary Table.
