WWE vs Arrow - 7 Reasons Why Stardust & Stephen Amell Is A Great Idea
2. Cody As Himself Is Actually Pretty Boring
This won't be a popular opinion but here it is: Cody Rhodes is pretty bland. Talented, charismatic, likeable, handsome (y'know - for the ladies!) but without a gimmick the man is just another wrestler. Who is Cody Rhodes? What are his motivations? What separates him from every other mid-carder in WWE?
Over the years we've seen him as one third of Randy Orton's Legacy, a dashing narcissist, and a tragic masked villain. The Legacy was never a trio, it was Randy Orton and minions. The Dashing gimmick was notable only for the digital mirror on the Tron. The Dr Doom inspired masked man had potential, but suffered in the details - if he didn't want us to see his face, then why wear a clear mask? At one point his career was so directionless he grew a mustache. That was his gimmick. And the mustache got more cheers than he did!
Fact is though, all of those gimmicks are the most memorable parts of Codys career, because on his own, he's just rather dull. Yes, his Brotherhood tag team with Goldust was fantastic, but that was born out of a red hot angle with the Shield and their father Dusty Rhodes. As the months went by and new tag teams emerged, WWE just couldn't keep their momentum going.
Now Goldust is out with an injury and Cody is on his own. While Stardust doesn't scream main eventer, it allows Rhodes to show a different side of his personality that love it or hate it, makes him stand out from the rest of the roster. The Stardust/Amell feud is the most notable thing Cody has done since the Brotherhood split up.
And for those who disagree, well there's good news too ...
