Bob Backlund

Bizarrely it was announced that he would be inducted by Access Hollywood's Maria Menounos which was a publicity stunt plain and simple. With her finally out of the picture who's left that could induct the man who once held the WWWF championship for almost six years (open to dispute). Two obvious choices would have been his former manager Arnold Skaaland (now deceased) or the man who took the title from him The Iron Sheik. With Sheiky baby a no go the list of inductors is short. Given Backlund's relationship with High Chief Peter Maivia and The Wild Samoans it would make sense for someone the calibre of The Rock to induct him but perhaps the link between these is too tenuous for today's audience. The only other option then would be Bret Hart who Backlund defeated to win his second WWF Championship back in 1994 after turning Heel. Hart and Backlund feuded for years and made Mr Backlund relevant to a modern audience (or rather a 1990's audience) once more. We don't feel there is anyone on WWE's book that would do a better job than The Hitman.
