WWE WrestleMania 33: 10 Potential Main Events

3. The Rock vs. Almost Anyone

The Rock has said he will be at WrestleMania 33. But what kind of role is he going to take on? Last year he did away with Erick Rowan in a few seconds, but maybe he’s got the itch to step back into the ring once more to help out a younger talent. And if he is promoted ahead of time to actually compete, it would be hard not to give him the final match on the show, as almost no one is going to be able to top him.

The best opponents for him would be: Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Kevin Owens and A.J. Styles. While Brock would be huge from a marketing standpoint, he’s kind of tied up with Goldberg, and probably wouldn’t be the safest opponent for the Hollywood superstar to face. Reigns would be a natural fit due to their family history, but to get there, he'd have to turn soon. Owens would receive a tremendous boost just from being in the same ring as the Great One, and Styles would give Rock the highest chance of being in a great match.

Styles would probably be the best choice, as he could do the most of the bumping, and make Rock still look like he’s in his prime. The only issue would be that they’d likely have to take the title off of Styles by then. Having another extreme part-time Rock as champ would be a rerun (unless it’s billed as a retirement match with him going on top), and having Styles go over Rock would be such a bold statement that WWE may not be willing to make it for their 39 year old “Face Who Runs The Place.”

It’s impossible to rule any of this out as a possibility. A few years ago we thought Rock would never compete again, and we sure thought we'd never see A.J. Styles in a WWE ring. Crazier things certainly have happened.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
