Finn Bálor vs. Triple H could easily be seen as another piece of wishful thinking. However, there’s more to the story behind this one than merely their NXT roots.

Bálor was of course crowned Universal Champion at SummerSlam 2016, only to be forced to vacate the title fewer than 24 hours later after busting up his shoulder in the match. By that account, Bálor should be first in line for a title shot when he does eventually return, and on the off chance he were to be denied that—by a certain Raw commissioner, perhaps—you’d forgive him for seeking retribution.

At risk of clutching at straws, that retribution could come in the form of a showdown with Triple H who would of course be standing up for his wife’s decision.

That way we get ourselves a perfectly adequate substitute for WrestleMania, while it also means that Bálor won’t have to be shoehorned into whatever Universal title feud is playing out at the time of his return.

A win-win situation, though admittedly a rather unlikely one.
