Watching the tweets roll in as soon as Asuka tapped out to Charlotte Flair was quite something on Sunday night. People were mad that the unstoppable Japanese star didn't cap off her memorable rise from NXT to the main roster by beating Flair to become the new SmackDown Women's Champ.

WWE had the future to take into account however, and the question backstage must have been: where do we go from here if Asuka wins the title by beating our best female all-rounder?

Charlotte remains the single best women's wrestler on WWE's books today. She can work well with anyone, talk better than most of the guys and has a presence about her that's unmatched by anyone else in the "women's revolution".

That class had to be treated with respect at 'Mania.

Now, WWE (and Asuka) have a monkey off their backs creatively. By losing for the first time in the promotion, Asuka's story has been galvanised. She has a struggle to overcome for the first time, and it's one fans won't find hard to invest in.
