WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022: 10 Nightmares That Could Come True

“Surprise” finishes are one of pro wrestling's most overdone tropes.

You know the drill by now - wrestlers evade certain doom and "shockingly" roll their opponents up for a quick one, two, three. The announcers are stunned, the worker who lost can't believe it, and fans are erm...sitting on their hands, usually.

Surprise rollups are fine if used sparingly, but they're rarely a satisfying way to prolong feuds. At Backlash though, Seth Rollins will probably get the hop on Cody Rhodes and "surprise" him by locking in a school boy pin for the win. That'd tie their series at one victory apiece and necessitate a third bout come Hell In A Cell.

Clean win at 'Mania > Roll up finish in rematch > HIAC doesn't sound right, does it? Fingers crossed somebody on the writing team suggests that Cody and Seth need more than a simple roll up and 50/50 booking if they're gonna be locked in the Cell next month.
