WWE WrestleMania: Every Women's Championship Match Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Trish Stratus (c) Vs. Mickie James - WWE Women's Championship (WrestleMania 22)

Of WWE's Ruthless Aggression era instalments of WrestleMania, WrestleMania 22 was arguably one of the greatest. Trish Stratus' defence of the Women's Championship against Mickie James was one of the reasons for this.

Acting as what should have been the finale to one of the all-time great women's rivalries, James and Stratus worked perfectly together to craft a match that wouldn't look out of place in today's era. They were redefining what it meant to be a female superstar in a time when WWE utilised their women mostly in bra and panties matches.

Of course, the match is most known for a spot that sees Mickie grabbing Trish's genitals and provocatively licking her fingers, a moment that was understandably edited out of the WWE Network version of the event.

Even from an in-ring standpoint, it was a solid match. Coming in at just under ten minutes and being the first time a women's match at WrestleMania felt like it deserved to be there rather than being placed there to satisfy the audience, this was a turning point for women's wrestling in WWE.

That it also resulted in Mickie James' first of six title wins in WWE is just another statistic that makes this match better.
