3. Edge & Lita
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMiT419xjAw Real-life couples have got to stop breaking up with each other and then having it play out on TV, it makes writing lists like these extremely difficult! With that being said, Lita and Edge - "the Rated-R Couple" - rank at number three, and not because of the entire drama of that messy love triangle with Lita's shoot boyfriend Matt Hardy, that spilled out onto television, despite Lita's on-screen persona being married to Kane. Are you confused? Don't feel bad. The reason why this couple ranks highly on this list is because of how legitimately amazing they were together. At the time their affair became exposed and used as fodder on television, Edge was in desperate need of an edge ... no pun intended, I swear ... to help give him that one tiny boost into the main event picture that he had been on the cusp of for quite a while. The affair with Lita legitimized him in the eyes of many as a dastardly scumbag heel (one that I became a huge fan of, because who can blame him for shagging Lita, I mean, I'm gay and even I would give it a go). As for Lita, she had been portraying the same character since her debut year in the company; she had never worked a truly heel style and needed something refreshing to keep her interesting. Turning her into Edge's rockstar-chic girlfriend was just what the doctor ordered. While Lita always presented herself as a legitimate women's wrestler and even made it clear that she wasn't that comfortable being considered eye candy, the fact remains that her transformation into Edge's little metal maven made her ten times hotter. The strut, the swagger, her resting b*tchface all made Lita one of the more memorable Diva heels. Combined, Edge and Lita were a dangerously sexy couple, and their partnership added a great dynamic to their matches, whether they were working Mixed Tag Team Matches or were going at it solo with the other present at ringside. More importantly, Lita would continuously sacrifice herself for Edge to ensure his success ... all the way up until the day she retired. Although there was never an on-air break-up, I like to imagine that their characters were probably the kind of people that realized they had a good run and ended the relationship in order to remain good friends. Call me an idealist.
