WWE's 53 Wrestlers Ranked From Worst To Best

16. Rusev

Pros:

1. Has shown considerable improvement over the last year

2. Has enjoyed consistent booking as a dominant force

3. Can cut a good promo despite his thick accent

Cons:

1. Works short squash matches more often than long matches

2. Might lose popularity due to his split with Lana

3. His gimmick is very one-dimensional, leading to questions on how the character can possibly progress once its current direction is over

Rusev is a great athlete. Despite being over 300lbs., Rusev has performed well in longer matches, as seen with his WrestleMania match with John Cena. Moreover, despite being a rather dated gimmick, Rusev manages to get considerable heat, partially because the ‘evil foreigner’ gimmick is one of the few things that still works well in professional wrestling.

On the other hand, Rusev’s future might be in doubt. Rusev has already lost to John Cena twice, and with his undefeated streak over, Rusev’s long-term storyline prospects might be uncertain.

Finally, his gimmick, while successful, might lose interest if it’s played out too much. Is this supposed to be a long-term direction that Rusev, or just a something that’s meant last a few more months? In either case, Rusev might want to think about where his character is going long-term; because he’s a good wrestler and heat magnet, and it would be a shame if somehow WWE screwed up his booking and fans lost all interest in him.

Final Rating: ***3/4
