12. Daniel Bryan Vs. Derrick Bateman - NXT
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7-z3FVmTPVcDerrick Bateman may just go down as the biggest missed opportunity in WWE history. He, along with Dolph Ziggler's months-long open mutiny on the house mic, was the sole bright spot on NXT's fourth season. He was a faux-Andy Samberg goofus in the body of a Greek god, and the perfect foil to his pro, Daniel Bryan.
Bryan had spent all season challenging his rookie to be more serious and take advantage of the fact that he was being mentored by the best submission wrestler on the planet, and when Bateman finally did, the results were amazing.
Bateman had been paying attention to Bryan's lessons after all, but as the trading of holds and counter-holds intensified, he found himself outclassed. Bryan was tying him in knots, so Bateman gained an advantage by utilizing his power and staggering his pro with a nasty lariat.
Bateman was able to power out of a LeBell Lock attempt with a Bob Backlund-style one-armed powerbomb, and he attempted to put Bryan away with his own version of the hold. Bateman couldn't lock it in fast enough, though, and Bryan rolled through to put his student in the hold for a quick submission.
