Can one promo truly cement a wrestler as a top guy?

In the case of Bron Breakker, a “mic drop” promo was probably one of the last items that hadn’t been punched on his dance card… until Monday night.

Two days after pinning World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, Breakker joined his Vision teammates to revel in their WarGames victory, and to announce that Bron will face Punk for the world title on the 5 January edition of Monday Night Raw. That’s when Breakker took the mic.

Bron started by saying he was “a little bit upset” about how easy it was to pin Punk. He thought he would have had to dig into his bag of tricks to beat him, but then he stood across the ring from Punk and discovered that he’s “nothing but a soft-ass b**ch.”

Breakker continued to rant and rave, calling 5 January a different kind of fight after Punk tried to break his neck and ruin his life in WarGames. He ripped off his jacket and screamed that he was coming for Punk’s title and his career.

Fantastic stuff from Breakker, channeling the rage of his uncle and sounding believable. There was no barking, no catchphrase, no nonsense. Just pure anger and conviction.

Sure, it was one promo, but sometimes it starts with one promo and goes from there. This could be the start of something big. Time will tell, but let’s not lose sight of this one.
