3 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (21 Nov - Results & Review)
2. So…Why Do The Bus Attack Angle?
SmackDown kicked off with lots of empty words involving The Vision and The Usos, then the latter called out Cody Rhodes to help even the numbers. Cody’s music played, but he was nowhere to be seen. Uh oh! Drew McIntyre had attacked him on his bus and left him bloodied/battered, so Jimmy and Jey rushed to the scene, then McIntyre drove past shouting at them.
Corey Graves pointing out that Drew didn’t step foot in the building so technically didn’t violate WWE’s suspension fell a little flat. He was there inside the ring last week, but yeah - get what they were going for. The real story was his violent ambush anyway. It smacked of The Rock kicking lumps out of Cody and gave this show a hot open and could’ve been epic, but then...Rhodes showed up less than an hour later to destroy Bronson Reed’s path in the John Cena tourney and cut a fiery babyface promo.
You've really got to wonder what the point of this bus attack stuff was then. It only served to make McIntyre look mediocre, because he couldn’t take Cody out for longer than 60 minutes then sped off thinking he'd done his dirty work to weaken the babyface WarGames team. Hmm. A vicious heel's inability to cripple the hero? That doesn't bode well for Survivor Series.
If anything, there should've been more mileage squeezed out of whether or not Cody would even make it to the PLE. Nick Aldis should've been having panic attacks about it all night, and WWE could've stretched that into next week. Let things breathe a little, guys.
