British wrestler Zack Sabre Jr. has agreed a new deal with with New Japan Pro Wrestling, according to Wrestling Observer Radio.
Sabre has been performing for NJPW over a year now, having made his debut in March 2017 at the promotion's 45th anniversary show. In this time, he has captured the New Japan Cup with victory over Hiroshi Tanahashi, and unsuccessfully challenged Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP Heavyweight Title.
According to Dave Meltzer, WON's leading source, Sabre will now be based in Japan on a full-time contract, having recently announced he will be stepping away from the US-based EVOLVE. Meltzer suggested that though the NJPW deal is not an exclusive one, his independent commitments may now be scaled back in view of his new schedule.
The 30-year-old has established himself as one of the industry's leading technicians over recent years, having wrestled for a host of British promotions, as well as Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in America. During his time with the latter, he held the PWG World Championship for more than a year between 2016 and 2017.
Sabre also briefly competed for WWE, eventually losing to Gran Metalik in the semi-finals of the Cruiserweight Classic two years ago. Despite purported interest in a longer-term partnership, the two parties were unable to agree to a full-time deal.
