10 Amazing Comic Book Covers DC Wants You To Remember
6. Green Lantern #49
As any fan of DC's books will tell you, the publisher likes to shake things up by doing drastic things to their popular characters. They killed Barry Allen back in the day and even took out Superman to sell some books.
When it comes to Green Lantern, you can't get any closer to a complete overhaul outside of the Emerald Twilight event. After his hometown of Coast city was destroyed, Hal Jordan recreated the whole thing, people included, with his Green Power Ring.
This upset the Guardians of the Universe who told him to cut it out. He didn't react well to that and ended up flying to Oa where he slaughtered just about every Green Lantern and Guardian he could find.
Darryl Banks and Romeo Tanghal's provocative cover featuring Jordan wearing multiple rings on each finger showed the face of pure evil in a character who had always been virtuous. The actions of Jordan set forth an overhaul of the Green Lantern Corps and much of the DC cosmic universe, which impacted stories for decades. This wasn't the only cover for the series, but it is certainly the most memorable.
