10 Amazing Comic Book Covers DC Wants You To Remember

3. Superman #75

DC Comics

When it comes to iconic books about Superman, one of the books that often comes up is Superman #75, otherwise known as the Death of Superman issue. When this book was released, it came out with a few covers, many of which were obscured by an opaque polybag.

If you tore open that bag and checked out the cover, you were afforded the opportunity to look at one of the most harrowing images in all of comics: Superman's cape torn and blowing in the wind off of some broken rebar.

The cover was illustrated by Dan Jurgens and Brett Breeding and it quickly became one of the most iconic images of the Man of Steel. Superman's "S" and his cape have often been a symbol of power, which is why seeing it like this, all broken and torn, was so evocative.

Comic book covers rarely incite emotions like Superman #75 did. Perhaps that's why DC decided to cover it up with their bags... Whatever their reasons, anyone who never opened their books missed out on seeing a beautiful illustration of something that should never happen to the Last Son of Krypton.
