Once Set's influence faded over Black Adam, he was no longer corrupted by evil. But because he was still perceived as a villain, Adam requested to join the Justice Society of America, believing it would help his reputation. The JSA thought it was more sensible to fight alongside their old enemy than against him and so, agreed. Worried that Adam was up to no good, Shazam joined the team to monitor his arch-enemy.

Surprisingly, Adam was true to his word. He often came across as arrogant and aloof but his intentions seemed pure. At one point, he apparently betrayed the team and joined Johnny Sorrow and his Injustice Society. However, it was revealed that Adam only did so to gain Sorrow's trust and destroy the team from the inside.

Sadly, Adam couldn't stop butting heads with his teammates. You see, Adam had dedicated years of his life protecting his home, Kahndaq, from invaders and terrorists. During this time, Adam realised that his enemies didn't understand diplomacy, only violence.

As a result, Adam couldn't understand why the Justice Society voluntarily chose to let their enemies live. When they refused to murder the terrorist leader, Kobra, Adam abandoned the team.
