10 Awesome Things You Didn't Know About DC Comics

10. The Guy Who Created Wonder Woman (And Her Lasso Of Truth) Also Created The First Lie-Detector Test

William Moulton Marston was an American psychologist, inventor and oddly enough, a comic book writer (known by the pen name Charles Moulton) who created Wonder Woman, one of the most iconic female superheroes of all time. In the early 1940s, DC was dominated by superpower-endowed male characters such as the Green Lantern, Superman and Batman. After being inspired by his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston and Olive Byrne (who lived with the couple in an extended relationship) Marston saw the opportunity and took the genre in a new female-empowering direction. Marston was struck by an idea for a new kind of superhero; one who would triumph not with fists or firepower, but with love. Aside from his comic book creations Marston is also credited as the creator of the systolic blood pressure test, which became one component of the modern polygraph invented by John Augustus Larson in Berkeley, California. Many have linked his innovation to Wonder Woman€™s Lasso of Truth, for obvious reasons. So, whether in the comic book world or the real world, this guy just seemed to be obsessed with getting people to tell the truth.
