Professor Pyg was one of several new villains introduced during Grant Morrison's seminal run on Batman, and also one of the most disturbing.
Although the Flamingo (yes, the Flamingo) could lay claim to being just as freaky - the guy does eat his victims' faces after all - what Pyg does is truly the stuff of nightmares.
Rather than kill people outright, Pyg is obsessed with making them 'perfect', turning them into his own personal Dollotrons, a process which involves a brutal kind of surgery that mutilates both the body and mind.
Pyg's victims are essentially made into unsexed dolls, which entails the removal of their genitals (lovely!!), a lobotomy and the especially painful part of having a molten mask melted onto their face to render them unidentifiable.
