10 Beloved Comic Book Characters Movie Fans Hate
2. Cyclops
There are few characters that have been done a greater disservice in a live-action adaptation of their source material than X-men leader Cyclops.
The key term in that sentence is leader, as that is exactly what Cyclops has often been seen as in the X-Men comics and expanded media, a fact that the film series would choose to omit and instead focus all the attention on Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
The unfortunate soul who was given the sorry can to carry in this franchise earl on was James Marsden, but whilst it would be easy to simply chalk up the poor portrayal and reaction to the character down to the wider decisions made, Marsden was still highly unspectacular in the role.
Despite being there to act as a more straight-laced foil to Jackman's Wolverine, Marsden has been openly criticised for a particularly wooden performance as the laser-shooting mutant and although given very little to work, not making the most of what screen-time he was given seems to have only escalated in the follow-up instalments to the original Millennium outing judging by further reduced time spent on screen.
Follow-up appearances in later X-Men films have not really ranked much better with fans still yet to see a worthy performance that befits one of the greatest X-Men characters.
