Detective Chimp first appeared in The Adventures of Rex the Wonder Dog #4 and was created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino. Bobo T. Chimp was an average but intelligent chimpanzee that was captured in Equatorial Africa in 1953 by Fred Thorpe who wanted to train him for his carnival act where it appeared that “Bobo” was solving mysteries. He later became a “helper mascot” to the local sheriff when he helps him solve Thorpe’s murder.

On A trip to Florida, Rex the Wonder Dog took Bobo to the Fountain of Youth where he gained eternal life, and the ability to speak to all living creatures in their own language, including humans, and raised his intelligence to genius levels. Bobo began to work as a private detective and did well at first but having no legal standing couldn’t enforce people to pay their bills or appear in court. When the Spectre threatened to destroy all magic, Bobo gathered a group of mystical beings to oppose him that became Shadowpact. He was later a member of the Justice League Dark.

Bobo’s intelligence is higher than 98 percent of the adult human population in the world. He is a member of Mensa and is a brilliant detective on the level of Batman and the Elongated Man. He is also a member of the Croatian Society with only of the world’s best detectives.
