After eight months of imprisonment by the Purple Man and recovering from a coma after being nearly beaten to death by the Vision and Iron Man after attacking the Scarlet Witch while under Kilgrave’s control, Jessica Jones abandoned her former life as a minor superhero. She opened the detective agency “Alias Investigations” and soon found that her cases were focused on the superhero world.

One of her earliest cases started out as a missing person case but ended up involving the potential unmasking of Captain America, and the possible overthrowing of George H.W. Bush by a corrupt Democratic Senator. Jessica, along with Luke Cage, whom she had begun an intimate relationship with, undertook bodyguard duties for blind Hell’s Kitchen lawyer Matt Murdock when he was accused of being the vigilante Daredevil.

The Purple Man comes back into her life when a client requests that she find a man named Kilgrave who killed 34 people simply by telling them to stop breathing. After escaping the Raft, he tracks Jones down and starts a riot outside her apartment to attract more heroes for him to control. Thanks to a post-hypnotic suggestion placed by Jean Grey, the villain no longer had any control over the young detective and she beat him nearly to death.
