Jason Aaron's stint on Thor has been one of the finest comic runs of the generation, and yet it somehow continues to elude the spotlight. With Jane Foster's story set to conclude next year, it only makes sense to look back to the issue that set it all in motion.

As much a celebration of the God of Thunder as it was a carefully constructed story that set-up the next year's events, the 700th issue of The Mighty Thor is everything an anniversary issue should be, Frog Thor and all.

In it, we see Jane - still undergoing treatment for her cancer - have to fight an enraged She-Hulk. Interspersed throughout is a story focussing on the Odinson in Asgard, along with his pooch, Thori the Helhound. There's also Frog Thor, who conjures a delightful little storm to rain on a criminal, and an appearance from the oft-forgotten War Thor too, who has to deal with just about the worst reveal this side of Midgard.

That's because Mangog, Jack Kirby's most fearsome Marvel creation, is heading back to Asgard. He destroys the War Thor almost in an instant, and while his one-man warpath looks set to continue, his reintroduction made for one of the best moments of the year.
