10 Best Comic Book Moments Of 2018

5. A Boy Named Kyle

X Men Red Costumes Mutant Nation
Marvel Comics/Mike McKone

Chip Zdarsky is a comic writer best known for things like Sex Criminals and Howard the Duck so when he was announced as the writer for the relaunch of the Spectacular Spider-man comics, most everyone was excited for the quips and tongue-and-cheek nature. No one expected his farewell issue, #310, would be such a gut-check.

The issue focuses in not on Spider-man but the mother of a kid that Spider-man helped put on the right path. The whole thing is framed around a documentary being made about Spider-man about this woman being interviewed about what Spider-man means and everything like that, recounting the tale of her son except it doesn't end happily, as her son is killed. Spider-man doesn't actually find out until he goes to see Kyle to help him study.

There's a lot more spectacular moments in this comic, including Peter Parker talking to the camera about what Spider-man means but the moments of Kyle's mom and the story about Kyle is just top form.
