9. Kraven The Hunter

The Riddler
Marvel Comics

Sergei Kravinoff is not a man to be trifled with. The half brother of the Chameleon has been a constant threat to Peter Parker ever since he first appeared way back in The Amazing Spider-Man #15 in 1964.

Hired by his brother to take care of Peter Parker, he very nearly achieves it when a poison dart renders the Web-Head almost unconscious, leaving him at Kraven's mercy. As always this isn't the end for Spidey, but it was the beginning of a lifelong obsession for the Hunter.

And wouldn't you know it, he actually manages to do so in the brilliant "Kraven's Last Hunt". Seemingly killing Parker, and then burying him six feet deep, he dons the Spider-mask and sets about proving he is superior in the role, in every conceivable way.

When Peter finally rises from the grave to take back what is his, Sergei simply returns home and takes his own life.

When he too is brought back to life, he goes on to become more dangerous than ever, with the original member of the Sinister Six defeating Kaine, a Spider-clone more powerful than Spidey himself.
