Until he was in the capable hands of Frank Miller, Daredevil was actually quite a forgettable Marvel character. However, once Miller took over the plotting of Daredevil's story, he permanently elevated him to a legendary status. Although Miller is the constant force in this run, it wouldn't be revered without artists Klaus Jansen and David Mazzucchelli helping to craft a dark tone for this universe.

This run on Daredevil is memorable for its moving arcs and strong individual issues, with many of these stories being haunting and emotional in ways that shocked its readers. Miller took his time to deconstruct Matt Murdock in a way that has never been surpassed since, proving that Daredevil is at his absolute best when he has his back against the wall, fighting against seemingly impossible odds.

Daredevil's universe was left permanently changed by the run with the introduction of the femme fatale assassin, Elektra, and Bullseye being changed from a joke character into a truly threatening comic book villain. Miller was also able to accomplish a rare feat in comics as the Kingpin - once synonymous with Spider-Man - is now known as a Daredevil villain.

Miller's Daredevil has everything that makes the character compelling. There's romance, copious amounts of street level action, religious symbolism, but more importantly than all of that, it shows how Matt Murdock lives up to the title of the Man Without Fear.
