10 Best Moments From Tom King's Batman
3. Comforting Gotham Girl
There will always be one thing that separates Batman from all the other edgy angst-ridden bad boys that have come after him, and no it's not his love of leather - that is in fact an eerily common trait among characters of this archetype.
But for Batman, what sets him apart is his humanity and empathy. He knows what it's like to be left helpless as your entire world is ripped to shreds right in front of you, and has dedicated his life to make sure that no other 8 year old boy has to go through that.
It is this desire that inspired the Clover siblings to become Gotham and Gotham Girl, and arguably what ended up getting the former killed.
So of course Batman feels a bit responsible for the mentally and emotionally broken Gotham Girl as she deliriously flies around Gotham, fighting random baddies and talking to a hallucination of her brother. This all culminates in Batman taking off his mask to finally get through to her, telling her all about his origin, and how he knows what she's going through and the pain she's in. The issue ends on the heartbreaking image of Gotham Girl sobbing into Batman's chest, telling him about how she misses her brother, with him only able to reply "I know".
Brilliant.
