10 Best New Marvel Characters Of The 21st Century

1. Miles Morales

All of the characters here are fine additions to the Marvel canon, and you might even argue Gwen and Khan are truly great. There’s only really Miles who gets even close to competing with Marvel’s legends though.

Inspired by Donald Glover and Barack Obama, Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli created the character in 2011. Morales climbed out of Peter Parker’s shadow almost immediately, providing a valuable new perspective and an important symbol. Miles admiration for his uncle Aaron turning sour when he realises his criminal ways is touching enough, but Miles' existential worries about his own future seal the deal.

His Into The Spider-Verse role was even bigger than Gwen’s, carrying the movie brilliantly. He’s as unique a Spidey as her, but there’s more depth to what Miles has explored.

Design wise he isn’t going to beat her, but he brings much more to the table and is easily Marvel’s greatest creation of the last 19 years.
