10 Best Times Superheroes Came Back From The Dead

9. Colossus

Flash Francis Manapul
Marvel Comics

When the cure for the legacy virus can only be made airborne by the death of its first user, Colossus steps up to the plate and sacrifices himself. This noble action would save countless lives but would result in the big metal guy being dead for the next two years.

While on recon at the Benetech facility, Kitty Pryde phases her way into a basement buried deep beneath the building. There she finds a strange cell of alien origin which she pops open just as some guards fly around the corner and open fire. Shifting her atoms let's the bullets pass through her where they ricochet off a familiar frame, that of Piotr "Peter" Nikolaievitch Rasputin.

Joss Whedon's run on Astonishing X-Men was brilliant from start to finish and his decision to bring back Colossus was a masterstroke. Explaining it away as a case of having his body swapped with a fake by Ord before he was cremated could've been a cheap copout if it hadn't been Kitty who found him.

Her shocked reaction sells the magnitude of the situation perfectly, leaving you as stunned as she is at the return of an old friend.
