10 Best Times Superheroes Came Back From The Dead

5. Bucky Barnes

Flash Francis Manapul
Marvel Comics

James 'Bucky' Barnes was dead far longer than anyone else on this list, having been exploded at the end of World War II.

As Baron Zemo's rocket is about to launch Bucky and Cap arrive to try and defuse it. As the doomsday weapon hurtles through the sky it explodes, throwing Cap into the waters that would make him a Popsicle for decades and seemingly killing Bucky outright.

That is until 2005, when Ed Brubaker decided to bring him back as the ice cold Russian assassin, the Winter Soldier.

Having not really been killed (a recurring theme if you want to bring someone back from the grave) this version of Mr Barnes was a lot different from the happy go lucky sidekick that had followed Steve Rogers throughout the Second World War.

This Bucky Barnes had been trained by the Soviets to be the perfect killer with a hatred for Captain America that bordered on fanatical. And though he would finally see the light and join the good guys once again, for a while it was touch and go as to whether or he would.
