3. What If... The Avengers Defeated Everybody?
What If...? Vol. 1 #29 (1981)
The Avengers are Earth's mightiest heroes, but what would happen if they all decided to turn on every other hero in the Marvel Universe? In a world that is similar to the one presented in Avengers Annual #2, the Scarlet Centurion managed to trick the Avengers into doing just that.
Unlike the original story, a future group of Avengers from another reality didn't arrive in time to stop the Centurion's plan. This left the Avengers to do exactly what the Centurion wanted, but it didn't go fully according to plan thanks to the Incredible Hulk.
The Hulk reached a point where he turned on the rest of the team, but when that happened, they banded together and defeated him leading to his being added to the Centurion's collection. When the dust settled, the remaining Avengers decided to retire, but it was at that point that the Scarlet Centurion decided to take over the world.
With the new threat on the horizon, Thor, Iron Man, the Wasp, and Giant-Man banded together once more to take him on. They managed to finally defeat him, but when the fight finally came to an end, they all decided to remain retired.
