10 Best X-Men Costume Redesigns

3. Punk Storm

Ororo Munroe was one of the X-Men's powerful members. Having been treated as a goddess in Africa, her initial appearance was one befitting of such a description. With her long white hair and flowing cape, Storm would serve as a member of the 2nd generation X-Men. But after her experience with the Brood, Ororo decided to change her serene look for something that was much more contemporary in the 1980s.

The result was her punk phase or better known as Punk Storm. Losing her flowing locks for a mohawk and ditching her costume for a leather vest, Storm underwent a major change. This change would shock her teammates and even left Kitty Pryde horrified with Ororo's new look. Despite this, Punk Storm would become one of the character's iconic looks and showed that Chris Claremont was always willing to switch things up to keep the X-Men fresh. One of the defining moments she did during her punk phase was her duel against Cyclops for the leadership of the X-Men; one that ended with Storm victorious. Because of her victory, Munroe became Cyclops' successor as the leader of the X-Men.

Years after the mohawk went out of fashion, Storm's redesign would return from time to time and even Alexandra Shipp would sport a similar look during her appearance as Storm in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse.
