The Celestials travel throughout the universe, tinkering with the DNA of different species. These space gods are among the most powerful beings in existence, due to their ability to create and control cosmic energy. Standing approximately 600 meters tall, they are also the largest species in the Marvel universe.

Although there are dozens of Celestials, Exitar the Executioner is the strongest and the largest, standing 3.8 miles, making him ten times taller than his brethren. When he first appeared to Thor, the Thunder God had difficulty seeing Exitar's face since his upper body surpassed the clouds.

When Thor struck the space god with his hammer, Mjolnir, the blow levelled mountains to rubble and rocked the foundations of cities across the globe, and yet it only made a crack in Exitar's body. Thor then entered Exitar and smashed its membrane with such force, it shattered Mjolnir. Despite giving his all, Thor's assault had little effect on the Celestial.

The only weapon which can kill Exitar is Thor's enchanted axe, Jarnbjorn. However, the energy that Exitar harbours is constant so when he dies, his power simply transfers to another Celestial, turning them into the new Executioner.
