10 Biggest Comic Book Controversies Of 2014

10. The Sony Leak

Just when it looked like the entertainment sector had peaked for 2014, coasting by on the goodwill from the long-teased Star Wars trailer and the inevitably big box office receipts from the final Hobbit film (for now anyway), Sony had to go and have its systems hacked. Which meant that some unreleased tentpole pictures made their way onto file sharing websites but, even more excitingly, all their emails leaked onto the internet too. It's a little bit mud rake-y to trawl through all of this private correspondence, but it's also exciting in a €œpulling aside the curtain€ sort of way, discovering that Aaron Sorkin's reputation hasn't quite recovered from those wilderness years between The West Wing and The Social Network, and that Channing Tatum writes emails in exactly the sort of way you'd think €“ and hope €“ he would. For comic fans the big news to come out of this was regarding Spider-Man, the Marvel superhero Sony still own the rights too. Apparently they're considering all sorts of ways to take the franchise, including plans to hand the film rights over to Marvel €“ unfortunately plans to give him back for the third Captain America film were nixed. And everyone was much happier not knowing that thank you very much.
