10 Characters Marvel And DC Don't Know What To Do With

2. Spider-Woman

Spider-Woman New Outfit
Marvel Comics

When Spider-Woman became a founding member of The New Avengers 15 years ago, it looked like her days of playing second-fiddle were over.

But in recent years, Marvel created THREE spider-themed superheroines; Spider-Gwen, Gwenpool, and Silk. Now, it's great that comics are embracing female heroes. If these superheroines could share the limelight, great! But it seems as though Spider-Woman is being left behind, only nailing down supporting roles in a few comics rather than being the lead fans know she's capable of being.

In recent comics, Spider-Woman joined Strikeforce; a team designed to neutralise paranormal threats. Considering she is fighting monsters and her team is composed of two Asgardians, a vampire, and a demon, Spider-Woman stands out like a sore thumb.

But don't worry! Her series is being relaunched this year. And what did Marvel do for this story? They gave Spider-Woman a new costume... after the perfectly acceptable redesign they gave her a few years earlier. That's it. Also it now has Spider-Man's webs, despite the fact that Jessica Drew has nothing to do with Peter Parker in the first place.

The whole situation reminds me of that episode of The Simpsons when executives assume kids are going to buy the Malibu Stacy doll because she has a new hat. You can't just give Spider-Woman a new costume and call it a day. She deserves better than that.
