10 Characters Marvel And DC Don't Know What To Do With
1. Wally West
Because Wally "The Flash" West is so popular, fans were baffled he was absent from the New 52 reboot of DC Comics. When Wally returned during DC Rebirth, his mentor, Barry Allen, said it was "the return of hope". Considering what the writers did next, that was the most ironic statement possible.
In Heroes in Crisis, Wally visits a superhero rehab centre. He hopes the facility will help him deal with the trauma after losing his family. Sadly, Wally becomes so unstable, he unleashes a Speed burst, killing 13 people.
Although it was an accident, any redemption was destroyed when Wally planted evidence to incriminate Harley Quinn and Booster Gold for his actions. That is the definition of character assassintation.
DC Comics then decided this was the perfect time to turn Wally... into the new Doctor Manhattan! If that sounds random, DC are using this story to reboot the entire universe AGAIN for the third time in eight years.
If this story doesn't work, it's going to screw up DC's continuity and it's going to be very difficult to make that unstick. In fact, we might need Barry Allen to pull a Flashpoint and make this Doctor Manhattan/Wally West story never come to be... in the future... somehow.
