If you want to get technical, Thor didn't destroy Captain America's shield in 2003’s Avengers #63 so much as he dented it, but the impression his hammer made in the vibranium served as a reminder of what Mjolnir is capable of.
The Avengers teammates came to blows shortly after the thunder god waged war on the nation of Slokovia, attacking them in an act of revenge when members of the Church of Thor were slaughtered within its borders.
Cap, Iron Man and Ant-Man were deployed to stop Thor and an epic battle commenced. It was during the heat of it that the Asgardian's hammer made its mark on the near-indestructible frisbee.
Since Thor is a good guy at heart, he soon calmed down and made peace with his teammates. One handshake later, the god of thunder used Mjolnir to hammer the shield back into shape, as any good friend would.
