10 Characters Who Proved Captain America WRONG
4. Bucky Barnes
These days, it's common knowledge that Bucky Barnes survived World War II to become the Winter Soldier, but before 2005, that wasn't a thing. Captain America survived the war, thanks to being literally 'put on ice,' but Bucky was believed dead since the war, and that death haunted Cap for years.
It all changed in 2005 when Ed Brubaker decided to undo years of comic book history by bringing Bucky Back from the dead. In this sense, Bucky himself proved Captain America wrong, but only about the fact that he had died. His return was somewhat bittersweet though, seeing as he showed up as a brainwashed Soviet-trained assassin.
Fortunately, Captain America was only wrong about Bucky's supposed death in WWII, and he was able to come to terms with that fact very quickly. When Cap confirms his sidekick's existence in the form of the Winter Soldier, he tracks him down and helps him recover his identity.
At that point, Bucky realizes the gravity of his past actions as the Winter Soldier, so he used the Cosmic Cube to teleport away from Cap. Shortly after this happened, Civil War broke out, and Cap was killed. Bucky then learns that Cap asked Tony Stark to look out for him, and Bucky assumed the mantle of Captain America in his mentor's absence.
