When Batman heard stories of a monster in Gotham hunting and skinning hoodlums, he searched for clues to help locate this enigmatic creature. When he came face-to-face with the culprit, he learned that it is the Predator. I don't mean it's a supervillain called the Predator. It is The Actual Predator from the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.

I cannot stress how underprepared Batman was for this confrontation. Although he is an expert with hiding in shadows, this skill is useless against the Predator since its visor can detect any lifeform's heat signature.

The Predator pummelled and slashed Batman until he was on the brink of death. Realising that he couldn't possibly beat the beast in a fair fight, Batman retreated. While he healed, he built an armour specifically designed against the alien to even the odds for their rematch. When Batman confronted the Predator again, he emerged victorious.

At the time of publication, this was, hands-down, the biggest beating Batman had ever received in the comics. Nearly 30 years after this story was released, Batman has only been thrashed like this a handful of times.
